How frequently do you use your cell phone? It has been found through a research study that those men who use cell phones for more than 4 hours a day have greater chances of being impotent than those who use it less than two hours. The relationship between mobile phone use and erectile dysfunction (ED) has been revealed by two studies of Austria and Egypt. The cause of damage could be the electromagnetic radiation that the cell phones emit or the heat that they give off.
A study was carried out, involving a group of 20 men suffering from erectile dysfunction and another group of 10 men who were healthy and did not have ED. The age, weight, smoking, total testosterone and radiation exposure to other sources were kept constant for all men in both the groups.
Men who normally kept their mobile phones switched on for 4.4 hours each day had erectile dysfunction, while those who used their cell phones on an average of 1.8 hours were healthy and did not suffer from ED. According to a report published in the latest newsletter of the Environmental Health Trust (EHT), the researchers stated, “Men who use mobile phones could be risking their fertility.”
Though, there was no effect on the sperm count in either study. The researchers further said, “Our study showed the total time of exposure to the cell phone is much more important than the relatively short duration of intense exposure during phone calls.”
The initial study was on a small scale. Therefore, the researchers proposed the need for large-scale studies.
