Mayor Sunil Prabhu, while speaking to the media, says “Until and unless a study pertaining to the effects of radiation from cell phone towers on health is not conducted, BMC will not let 4G mobile phone towers be installed.” When the meeting of the group leaders in BMC was over, Prabhu told the media that a study is soon to be carried out under the civic body’s directions and with the help of a new committee formed, consisting all the experts.
He also stated that BMC was receiving applications, asking to permit the installation of 4G towers. But, because they were not sure about the extent of radiation emitted by the towers, they have asked the administration to look into its effects on the health of residents.
A decision was taken by the group leaders after Rais Shaikh, who was the group leader of Samajwadi Party, brought up this matter for discussion, talking about a 70-ft-tall 4G tower in Chembur. Prabhu said, “A notice has been delivered by Sitaram Kunte, the BMC chief, to the private player who has installed the tower.”
